GRRRRR!!! I got the welder out. I found some unpainted steel to weld. I found an empty 20 amp circuit to use. Threaded the wire and then it rained. I REALLY need a garage.
I couldn't believe it! Everything was perfect, except the weather. I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow.
I other news, I got a strut to replace the bent one for $35 under budget and I put a $1000 bid on an orange 2003 4 cylinder Vue with a manual transmission about 15 miles south of Chicago. It didn't met the reserve, but who knows?
